On A Prayer for our Church

As we approach the vote on Sunday I’d like to share a prayer for our church family.   Throughout this process the most important ask has been prayer.  Given this emphasis, it seems fitting that we would focus this post on prayer.  I hope these words will give you words to pray to our God on behalf of our church in this season.

God of Grace we praise you for your goodness and greatness.  You are infinitely wise, knowing the best in every situation.  You are limitless in your power, leaving nothing too hard for you.  You are gracious and kind, lavishing love and grace on your people.

Today we come into your presence with thanksgiving in our hearts for all you’ve done.  Thank you for Jesus Christ, who loves us more than we could imagine.  Thank you for connecting us to one another as your body.  The joy we experience in our love for one another in your name is such a gift.

God we need you.  Our church family is not smart enough, not talented enough, not wise enough, not wealthy enough to do what only you can do.  We beg you for grace and mercy in this season.

Gracious God, we are asking you for wisdom for our church today.  Please endow every member of our family with insight and discernment.  We ask you for unity and oneness of mind.  Please help us continue to assume the best of one another, serving one another as brothers and sisters.  We ask for health for our church family today.  Please help us continue to teach the truth with compassion and connection.  Help us boldly share the gospel with our community.

Finally Lord, we pray for the meeting Sunday night.  As we gather together in your name, please be present in a palpable way.  Guide every minute of the meeting.  Questions, discussions, votes, ministry updates, times of prayer and the Lord’s Supper- we commit all of these to You.  Please move in every moment of these activities and give us supernatural grace and strength.

Lord Jesus, we love you and praise you for the way you’ve so obviously guided us in this season.  We ask all this in your name, Jesus, Amen.
