On Good Family Resources

Over the past four weeks we’ve taken a close look at the family.  We’ve talked about the role of parents, a vision for the family, marriage, and singleness.  At one point in the series, I mentioned a resource list I planned to put out for those of you who would like to go deeper. Here’s the list with a short description of each book:

The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God by Tim and Kathy Keller.  The Kellers offer insight and wisdom having pastored and served in a local church in New York City for decades.  I worked through this book years ago and still find myself coming back to it for insight and help. https://a.co/d/aoW27DR

Shepherding a Child’s Heart by Tedd Tripp.  This was a book Shelley and I read together early in our parenting journey.  It’s an excellent overview not only of the parenting task but also the spiritual development of your child.  https://a.co/d/aUoHhxP

Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles that can Radically Change Your Family by Paul Tripp.  This book is less about strategy and more about the philosophy of parenting.  If you want to think more about your overall approach to parenting, this is an excellent resource. https://a.co/d/4qqdLAf

The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness by Jonathan Haidt.  While the author is not a Christian, his insights into the impact of technology on the next generation are helpful.  Read this less for prescriptive help (what should I do?) and more for more descriptive help (what’s actually happening in the lives of teeangers).  https://a.co/d/7jXvta3

To the Tenth Generation: God’s Heart for Your Family, Far into the Future by Ray Ortlund. Much of the Legacy Parenting series was inspired by this book.  It’s a great read for those of us who need to be reminded of the incredible impact God’s planted within our family.   https://a.co/d/3k5kLCu

Parenting with Hope: Raising Teens for Christ in a Secular Age by Melissa Kruger.  This is one of the best parenting books I’ve ever read.  As a parent who’s recently entered the season of parenting a teenager, I found this book to include both solid biblical truth and insightful practical help. I cannot highly recommend this book enough.  https://a.co/d/gjdPQ1n

Single, Dating, Engaged, Married: Navigating Life and Love in the Modern Age by Ben Stuart. This book is designed to systematically walk through different stages of life.  Targeted for single adults, it’s a great resource for those who want more insight about how to leverage each season for Christ’s kingdom. https://a.co/d/5WC0t2d
